2008 ATIA Conference

The Pass It On Center was very pleased to have been invited to present an entire strand on AT Reuse at the Assistive Technology Industry Association's (ATIA) Annual Conference in Orlando, FL, January 30 - February 2, 2008.

The ATIA Annual Conference is a "leading conference for the Assistive Technology community offering attendees the opportunity to participate in discussions with industry experts, learn about new technologies, best practices, and a host of specialized services." We appreciated this opportunity to continue the conversation with AT manufacturers and vendors that we started at last year's Conference.

Pass It On Center staff, together with several talented and knowledgeable co-presenters, provided five presentations on a range of AT reuse issues including:

  • How AT reuse can benefit transition for students,
  • Risk reduction issues for reuse programs,
  • An overview of the Pass It On Center and Year 1 accomplishments of the Center and the 11 RSA funded AT Reuse Demonstration programs,
  • Reuse and AAC devices, and
  • “So, You Want to Start an AT Reuse Program?” – for those new to AT reuse.
  • We also offered two “focus groups” for AT vendors and manufactures. We are very pleased to building both local and national relationships with our friends in the AT industry.

We hope that these PowerPoint presentations (accessible in a variety of formats) will be of value to AT Reuse programs, vendors, and those just beginning an AT reuse program.

The Pass It On Center wants to again thank Sara Sack and Beth Mineo for acting as the AT Act and Pass It On Center strand managers for the ATIA 2008 Conference. We can't say it any better than it's said in the ATIA Conference Program: Sara and Beth are true "leaders in their fields.” Of course, we thank our co-presenters: Chris Brand, Jessica Brodey, Steve Parker, Bob Rust, Joe Tedesco, Carla Walker, and Dorothy Young.

Our participation in this important conference would not have been possible without the assistance of Caroline Van Howe, ATIA Director of Programs. Thank you, Caroline.
