DISABILITY EQUIPMENT RECYCLING PROGRAM

OPENS EQUIPMENT RECYCLING CENTER

Washington, DC --- The District of Columbia Disability Equipment Recycling Program

(DC Shares) equipment recycling center is now open. The center located in the Christopher Price Building at 1301 Belmont St. NW, Suite 1D provides new, used and recycled durable medical equipment to District residents. The equipment such as wheelchairs, walkers, crutches, hospital beds, shower chairs, computers and other assistive technology devices is available to those individuals with disabilities or illnesses who may have no other means to purchase the equipment. The center also serves as a location where you can donate used equipment that can be refurbished and made available for immediate use by someone in need.

The Disability Equipment Recycling Program is a joint partnership with the Washington Area Wheelchair Society and the Assistive Technology Program for the District of Columbia. According to Paul Holland, President of DC Shares, “The center will not only provide a location for people to get the equipment they need, but also a place where people can SHARE by donating equipment they no longer need so others can put it to good use.”

Visitors to the center can also get valuable information on how to operate and maintain the equipment. There is also someone on site to provide information and referral assistance about insurance and government entitlement programs. The District of Columbia Disability Equipment Recycling Program hours of operation are Monday thru Friday from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.

Alicia Johns, Program Manager for the Assistive Technology Program for the District of Columbia, says “The equipment recycling center will allow DC residents to have greater access to a variety of assistive technology devices that will enable them to live independently.”
