Why sanitize used equipment? ..To protect our network members and customers by avoiding the spread of germs and infection. – The most common infections are colds and respiratory infections, but hepatitis and even AIDS can be communicated through exposure to saliva or blood. ..To maintain KEE’s standard of quality used equipment being shared with others. Steps to Protect Yourself: ..Wash your hands with hot water and soap before beginning. – Apply soap to all hand surfaces, rinse and dry thoroughly. ..Put on disposable gloves before handling equipment. ..Put on new gloves before cleaning the next piece of equipment. – Gloves reduce cross-contamination by 70% - 80% and protect network members from infection. – Alcohol-based hand rub products may be applied before putting on gloves. Steps to cleaning equipment: ..Follow the product instructions. ..If the germicide is added to hot water, make an adequate amount of the solution to clean the equipment. ..Wash your hands with soap and hot water. Dry them thoroughly. ..Put on your gloves. You may choose to wear goggles. ..First remove the visible stains. ..Next clean and decontaminate the surface. Steps to cleaning equipment: ..Clean all surfaces, including upholstery. Straps, slings, other detachable items may be washed in a washing machine and air dried. ..Other surfaces on devices may be allowed to air dry or be dried with a clean absorbent towel. ..Throw out any remaining cleaning solution and dry out the bucket if using a germicide/hot water solution. ..Put on new gloves and repeat on the next piece of equipment. Sanitization Rules when Picking Up Equipment: ..Put on disposable gloves before handling equipment. ..If you are picking up multiple pieces of equipment, put on new gloves after handling each piece of equipment. ..If you cannot wear disposable gloves due to sensitivity, use an alcohol-based hand rub after handling each piece of equipment. Sanitization Rules when Delivering Equipment: ..Wash hands with soap and water before receiving the equipment from the AT Access Site staff. ..Inspect equipment before loading it.
