National Leadership Summit on EM & AT Reuse

Emergency Management

National Leadership Summit

The National Leadership Summit on Emergency Management and Assistive Technology Reutilization was held on February 23-24, 2010, at the Melrose Hotel, Washington, D.C. This dialogue brought together for the first time national leaders in emergency management and stakeholders in assistive technology (AT) and disability. The group explored how reutilization of AT can be integrated into emergency planning and response to meet the needs of individuals with disabilities involved in disasters.

This invitation-only event was sponsored by the Pass It On Center, a national technical assistance center focused on the reutilization of AT and funded by the U.S. Department of Education.

The goals of the meeting were:

To define the role of reused assistive technology (including but not limited to durable medical equipment) in disaster planning, response, recovery, and mitigation for people with functional needs. To identify the infrastructure needed to develop and implement a rapid response system for delivering assistive technology devices and services to meet the needs of people with functional needs affected by disaster. To develop a sustainable national network to pursue national strategies for addressing the AT needs of people in disaster preparedness, response, recovery, and mitigation. To develop achievable action steps for participants and other key entities to meet these goals.

Attached documents include the agenda, information about the participants and slides from the PowerPoint presentations. The report of the Summit has been added to the attachments.
